LETHBRIDGE – It’s a night that always seems to get the fans down to the Enmax Centre: the Hurricanes host the Red Deer Rebels Saturday for the team’s annual teddy bear toss.
Last season, the Hurricanes teddy bear toss goal didn’t come so easy. Taylor Cooper finally found twine in the third period, allowing anxious fans to send their teddies to the ice. Goals were hard to come by in 2014, but this season, the Hurricanes are the highest-scoring team in the WHL. So most ‘canes players aren’t worried about not scoring the big goal, but who gets it.
Here’s a look at who some of the Hurricanes think will net the big goal that sends the bears to the ice.
Barrett Sheen: “I think Wonger is probably going to score the goal. It’s probably going to be a one-timer.”
Ryan Vandervlis: “My prediction would be Egor Babenko. He’s going to take the puck down low, look for his options, then tuck it in.”
Tyler Wong: “I’m pretty confident it will be me, Jordy (Bellerive), or Giorgio (Estephan). Our line is definitely going to get it.”
Andrew Nielsen: “I’m going to go with Nick Watson. I think he’s going to get his first of the season. He’s going to get a breakaway coming out of the penalty box, he’s going to come down the left wing, he’s going to do two spin-o-rama’s and kick it top corner. I mean it won’t count, but it’s going to be cool.”
Carter Folk: “My bet’s on Cory Millette. He’s been hot of late, and I think he buries it.”
Brayden Burke: “I’m going to say (Egor) Babenko. He scores a lot of goals, and I’m going to be giving him passes, so hopefully he gets it.”
Jordy Bellerive: “We’ll see, hopefully somebody on my line, Giorgio (Estephan), or (Tyler) Wong. Those guys have been hot all season. So I’m pretty confident one of those guys will put it in.”
