CALGARY – The Calgary Hitmen collected a record 28,815 stuffed toys in their 21 annual Petro-Canada Teddy Bear Toss game in front of a sell-out crowd at the Scotiabank Saddledome Sunday afternoon.

Hitmen Jordy Stallard scored the goal that got the fur flying early in the second period. The Hitmen won the game 2-1 in a shootout over the Swift Current Broncos.

Hitmen staff will now begin distributing the stuffed toys to more than fifty different agencies starting Monday morning.

“We cannot thank our fans enough as their support for this event continues to grow to unbelievable levels,” said Mike Moore, the general manager for the Hitmen.  “The bears generously donated today will go a long way to helping many deserving charities this holiday season.”

Sunday’ collection of stuffed toys surpasses the previous record set on Dec. 2, 2007, when 26,919 teddy bears were tossed.
