5 charged in Brampton drug trafficking raids; handgun, $50K in cash and drugs seized

TORONTO —; Five Brampton residents have been charged after cocaine and heroin trafficking raids in Peel Region led to the seizure of a handgun and more than $50,000 in drugs and money.

Peel Regional Police said the first search warrant was executed at a residence on Balmy Way in Brampton’s north end early Wednesday morning.

Investigators said about $38,000 worth of heroin was seized, in addition to a small quantity of cocaine valued at $650.

Another search warrant was executed at a home on Swales Crescent at the same time, which led to the seizure of a loaded .22 calibre Sig Sauer handgun, ammunition and $14,980 in Canadian currency.

Jermaine Hinds, 21, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and numerous firearms-related charges. He was held in custody for a special bail hearing on Wednesday in Brampton.

Joel Hinds, 25, of Brampton, has been charged with numerous firearms related offences and was held in custody for a special bail hearing on Wednesday in Brampton.

Christopher Agyemang-Prempeh, 21, of Brampton, was also arrested and charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Jan. 7.

Iyesha Cassanova, 22, has been arrested and charged with possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Cassanova is scheduled to appear in court in Brampton on Jan. 7.

Vince Asanti, 25, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking and possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to appear in court in Brampton on Jan. 7.
